Cape Summer Villas’ Charity Golf Day in Plett raises R31K for the hospitality industry

Cape Summer Villas’ Charity Golf Day #TeeOff4Tourism Challenge, held on Saturday 8 August 2020 at the Goose Valley Country Club in Plettenberg Bay, was a huge success, according to Paul Duverge, Group General Manager of Cape Summer Villa Boutique Collection.

“We had a record sell out and we garnered a whopping R31000.00 from ticket sales, and hole sponsorships - actually the four balls sold out within four days”.

The main objective of the Cape Summer Villas #TeeOff4Tourism Golf Day was to raise funds for the procurement of food for Plettenberg Bay’s hospitality workers, many being the sole breadwinners of their families, who have been adversely affected by the Covid-19 lockdown.

With the current situation that the South African tourism sector has been experiencing, The Cape Summer Villas Boutique Collection - with its collation of Western Cape exclusive accommodations, from quaint hotels in Garden Route to luxury accommodation in Plettenberg Bay - felt strongly about adding its voice to the #ServeUsPlease, #Tourisminmyblood and other similar campaigns, as a means of placing pressure on the government to re-open the tourism sector and assisting the now, many unemployed hospitality  workers within the Plettenberg Bay industry.

All proceeds from the Cape Summer Villas #TeeOff4Tourism Golf Day will be allocated to providing food parcels for these affected hospitality workers, Duverge explained.

“Our focus has always been about uplifting our community, and what is gratifying about our Golf Day initiative is the way it brought in generous support from the entire town and community of Plettenberg Bay. We’re hoping that other companies, towns, and provinces will follow our lead and start similar initiatives of their own.”

“All round it was a fabulous day - well done to the team and big thanks to all our supporters”.

Great prizes included the Grand Prize – a five-night stay at one of the properties of Cape Summer Villas Boutique Collection, and hotel vouchers, meal vouchers, golf goodies and a prize for the Best Dressed team.

“It makes me proud that Goose Valley Golf Course was part of this important initiative. It was a hugely successful Golf day”, said Daniel Gouws, Goose Valley’s PGA Head professional at the signature Gary Player designed 18-hole, 72-par golf course.

CEO of Plett Tourism attended the prizegiving and was overwhelmed with the support from the tourism community. “The coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic has triggered a tourism economy crisis globally and this crisis is being felt throughout our local economy. Our faith and working together will continue to provide us with the tools we need to stay ahead during difficult times. We are grateful for this initiative presented by Cape Summer Villas and the team at SkyVilla, a world class event for the world class people in Plett.”
