Holiday celebrations in Plettenberg Bay bring back memories of beachside bliss and create new memories to last a lifetime. In Plett, the holiday season is centred around beautiful lights, great music, the joy of sharing and simple pleasures like enjoying an ocean view.
December and early January are packed with events that range from street parades to sailing adventures.
The inaugural street parade and street lighting ceremony, sponsored by the Bitou Municipality, takes place on the 16th of December and this year’s Plett Streetlight Celebration filled Plett’s Main Street with holiday cheer and dancing feet. The Executive Mayor of Bitou Municipality, Peter Lobese, officially opened #PlettSummer on the Day of Reconciliation to welcome visitors to the area and officially switch on the Christmas lights.
The celebration included a Christmas market, food vendors and a street parade that kept families entertained and well-fed. Father Christmas made a special guest appearance at the Kids’ Zone and the children also enjoyed games, face painting and jumping castles.
The local Riel dancers, DJ’s and a Plett choir led by Ghetty created a festive vibe to kick-off the celebration. The Plett Pioneers Field Band led the parade which started at 6pm. Other participants included the Crags Drill Squad, the Bitou fire and emergency teams, Plett Sea Scouts, the NSRI crew and the Keep Plett Clean campaigners. Other favourites included beauty queens, Kwano Cycling Academy students, the Kwano Community Policing forum, the PBCPA and the volunteer Fire Management Unit.
